New Beginnings & Rainy Days
Peering out the open window, nestled in her comfortable cat hammock, Ash feels the cool autumn air brushing against her fur. Her sister, Marshmallow, dancing around the living room floor chasing bees upon strings and bells wrapped in bramble. The occasional conversation or car alarm catches her attention from out the window. And both cats watch as the golden leaves leap from the crooked branches and land damp on the ground. The turn of winter winds has come swiftly, from the warm autumn eves to a day filled with spilling rain and sunless skies. It's as if nature felt the end of the Halloween festivities and knew to wash it away with its showers of rain. Preparing us for dark, dreary days, and early nights where true tests of character and companionship are won.
This time of year, even with its often poor weather and short lived days, has always filled a place in my heart. It's as if a warm hearth bellows deep within me when I see the faces of pumpkins and smell the scent of spice in the air. When I see rain smearing the paint off those very pumpkins, making them regain their earthly shine. I cherish it now as I can sit in my comfortable home and write to my heart's content without feeling the regret of missing a beautiful day. The weather outside is properly miserable and I love it.
I've spent some time trying to figure out what to focus on with this blog post and as I sat contemplating my options, I looked outside to this scene and realized it'll all be washed away come autumn anyway, so I might as well write whatever is on my mind and continue on about my day.
"Just make it exist. Perfect it later."
I think of this quote and how that pertains to my process now of creating and showcasing my work. In particular, this very blog post and how I can perfect my website as a whole and the topics I'd like to present moving forward. Unfortunately, bills are due soon, and that mixed with limitations of the website builder I chose, means I can't upload the content I'd like in order to complete the website for now. I created a fun icon and possible rename for the blog and YouTube channel that I'd like to showcase but maybe that will come later.
I choose to still post because I don't simply want to wait and waste a perfect day ;) I want to continue creating, even if that means it's flawed and unfinished. The process in which we complete something is as important, if not more important than the finished product. We often see artist's work and their finished projects without seeing their processes and design thinking. Especially in a day of social media where we are constantly seeing the finished product without seeing the work it took to get there. I'd like to show that process, however rough it may be. Cause to me, honesty and human connection is the real reason we create anyway. It is being honest with oneself and pouring their soul into a project or piece, and seeing how that honesty connects with the human taking in the media. Using it to connect with others and build communities around someone else's work. Maybe that is why I am drawn to game design so much. The communities that form around games are so beautiful and strong that they form connections that last a lifetime.
With all that being said, I hope to have my website at a strong point by next week to where both creators and recruiters alike can actually go and look at my work and seek out my resume. I also hope to have a video up on my YouTube in the coming week or two addressing my history as a world builder and game designer. As for "Project: Drumfire," it’s been officially named Drumfire Champions! I’m actively brainstorming and making some design decisions and am excited to start showing off some of the designs soon! But for now that all I have for you, thanks for coming along this journey with me, and I hope to see you back in the future! Stay creative my friends and enjoy the weather, no matter how miserable it may be.
